  • Todd, I'm assuming you can use the same method with cannabis? Also, any significant correlation with shelf life and potency?

  • @xJesseVerrier - cannabis is best made as a fresh plant tincture (95% etOH), or as a percolation. The addition heat also helps with extraction, but heat + etOH make for a dangerous combination. Lipid-based extracts are also useful.

  • @kingdavidzora - you could, although i am not sure why... what's the intended use? what are you trying to extract? much of the medicinal benefit in pine is in the aromatic oils and resins. Some people recommend pine pollen as a food, although I consider it more of a potential allergen if eaten regularly - best used as an occasional/seasonal/survival food.

  • @toddcaldecott Hey Todd, thanks for your response. Well I use pine pollen powder for all of its health benefits. However, I hit the gym 5 days a week and I pine pollen tincture is used to increase testosterone in men and I have noticed its benefits from using it from a tincture I bought from the company Surthrival. But because of its high cost I wanted to make it myself so I wanted to know how much alcohol volume should be used to get the most potent tincture out of 100grams of pinepollen powder.

  • @kingdavidzora - looked at the only paper published on pubmed, found the original, and ascertained that the mean androgen levels in Pinus sylvestris pollen are 5mcg/10g, which is a tiny, tiny, tiny amount. To get even 1 mg of androgens, you would have to ingest 2,000,000 grams of pine pollen, which is 2000 kg. A tincture will yield much less than this, so in all honesty I wouldn't waste your time.

  • I have never made a tincture of Lion's Ear (Leonotis nepetifolia), but given its constituent profile including alkaloids a tincture is a good choice. I tend to prefer fresh plant tinctures, but the recently dried herb can also be tinctured.
