http://www.engVid.com/ If you want to "keep up" with other English students, you need to master phrasal verbs. In this lesson, I explain how phrasal verbs work, using "keep up" as my main example.

  • In my opinion keep up cannot be used as a substitute for stay up. An example of this would be, I stayed up all night because of the noise. Now compare this with the sentence I was kept up all night because of the noise. See, by intuition the second sentence does not sound as good as the first.

  • @ansur996 The second sentence sounds just as good to me, actually.

  • lol pick up a chick xD

  • Eddie Brock! Nice!

  • good work

  • Thanks! I try.

  • Thank you, You the best!!

  • @ansur996 In reality the second sentence is better, James example comes closer to the meaning, why? When you stay up all night it implies you did it willingly. In this case you were forced to stay up, therefore KEPT UP is a better choice.

  • " to keep up with..' probably means ' to do something , to carry on with sth with the same rate ' :)

  • @JamesESL really good vid i am not an english learner but this is part of my grammar homework

    its funny

  • What does up have to do with stopping? stop up I guess, but that's not that common.
