@ansur996 In reality the second sentence is better, James example comes closer to the meaning, why? When you stay up all night it implies you did it willingly.In this case you were forced to stay up, therefore KEPT UP is a better choice.

In my opinion keep up cannot be used as a substitute for stay up. An example of this would be, I stayed up all night because of the noise.Now compare this with the sentence I was kept up all night because of the noise. See, by intuition the second sentence does not sound as good as the first.
