This is a very early clip from Cleveland, Ohio's famous Hoolihan & Big Chuck Show, probably from late 1966 or early 1967. Inspired by Ernie Kovacs and Steve Allen, Chuck often adapted the technical tricks he saw on the national shows for local C-Town television. There is an earlier version of this experiment that Chuck did, probably a year or so earlier without Hoolihan's involvement, and I'll see if I can upload that at some point. If someone can name the music for me, I'd appreciate it.

  • Great vid and great tune. Its "Niki Hoeky" by PJ Proby from the "Enigma" album (1967).

Written by Redbone ("Come and Get Your Love") and covered by Bobbie Gentry, PJ Proby, Aretha Franklin, Burt Cummings (The Guess Who).

Must check out Bobbie Gentry's version on Smothers Bros (here on YouTube).

  • Thanks! I knew that SOMEONE had to know what that tune was!

  • Faved and shared. This is Cleveland TV at its best.

  • Brilliant! Two create masters at work.

  • F'in Incredible clip, Screw Pittsburgh!

  • I haven't seen this since it first aired...still funny!

  • Charles Chaplin employed this technique in some of his silent films, too. Requires some choreography, but looks pretty simple.

  • Really nice to see you put this up.
