Performance of Puscifer's "The Humbling River" as part of a service at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Corvallis, OR.

Guitar - Kyle McDonald
Violin - Kayla Reimen
Vocals/Percussion - Beth Koch

Keep in mind we learned and practiced this over a two day period.... i think it turned out pretty well. Kayla definitely kicked the most butt. I appologize for the poor audio quality on the recording, missed a lot of the lower end.

  • Hey do you know how to play the guitar part by any chance?

  • @SoCxXerXceS Is that supposed to be an insult? Certainly came off as one and I don't see that it's very relevant. There were a few timing issues because i was trying to correct for the vocals going off time.

  • can you give me the notes for the violin part? i dont have a violin but i have a keyboard with a violin setting on it

  • @SpiraloutThirdeye sorry i don't know... do it by ear

  • Not fond of the high pitchedness of the voice. . . this song should be relaxed and sung in an almost 'talk' voice, much loser. Or softer, at least. The timing is off by far. It wasn't bad but I definitely don't agree with its religious application, given that Maynard is so forwardly anti-religion in his music and even played a prank on people quite meanly about 'finding Jesus' on April Fools and then sort of going 'Ha ha.'

  • @ApollonApostle While i do agree with your critique on the vocals 100%, your feedback on the application of this song to the setting is not well placed. If you know anything about Unitarian Universalism then you would know it lies well within Maynard's views life in general (not that i should need his approval anyway). UU's support the free search for truth in life and activism in the interest of a non-violent society. Hell, the minister at this church is a Lesbian. Don't assume it's Semitic.

  • @thereisnotruth Shit i worded it bad, would you mind posting a video on how to play it? Wasn't trying to be a dick lol

  • Her voice = ice picks to the ears.

  • yeah a little fast on the timing. music wise it's not the hardest song at all to cover.i would agree though that the vocal pitch sits a little high against the droning instrumentation. not bad singing though. i might do a cover of this song but since it's just me i'm gonna record my parts into ableton than sing over em. don't own a violin so i'll fake em out with software.

  • I thought you guys captured the essence of the song nicely. well done.

As far as everyone thinking Maynard is against religion you might have missed his whole point. Go open the liner notes to Aenima and read about the bands view on religion there. It just about not settling on a 'belief' and pushing to find more answers.

Angels are mentioned quite frequently in ritual magick and Tool seems to be very involved in.

Open you minds and spiral out. Peace.

  • @ApollonApostle i think that maynard is just against what people have done to pervert the teachings of people like jesus buddha muhamad etc..what they are teaching is good its the people change their teachings too control others that is the joke...if you understand what jesus's teachings really are they have nothing to do with any of what christianity teaches..and like the bible, music can be interpretted in many ways so who cares what u think the song means and who cares what i think

  • @awellam i would have to say check out the real version and read the bible its an interesting song

  • i think its rather hilarious that everyone is freaking out over where you played it and who for and stuff like that. even more hilarious is the fact that you guys freak out bout who maynard is and what he would want done. maynard is a man, and an artist. THATS IT. if you like his song, play it. if you like the words, sing em. i does not matter what the original artist thinks, art is for individuals and how they feel. all of you dont even know what maynard wrote it about. great cover guys

  • Lyrics sure aren't doing it for me.. Not that she's a bad singer..

  • do not listen to the nay sayers. this is awesome

  • I think this is a great cover, but there are some timing issues. Your cover gives me the feeling as the original song does, so it is definately good. I'd love to be part of the service.

  • What...no cover of "Sour Grapes"?

  • i beleave this is the best cover of this song that i have heard of so far,,timeing a little off at times but otherwise a great cover.

  • @Mrblue24 I am very familiar with Maynard and his work, just saw them live last November and it was excellent. I think Maynard would approve of this denomination. thanks for the words

  • lmao that you guys covered a puscifer song for church! Do you guys even know who maynard is? decent cover though.

  • very nice cover!! love it.
