Larry was very weak and losing a lot of weight. I took him to the vet and found out he had MITES, really REALLY bad! He had blood work done, a fecal that showed he had worms too. So he was treated with Pancur for the worms, Frontline for the mites and is on a 2 week course of antibiotics now. He is the ONLY one that had mites, none of my other chickens or ducks have them. UGH!

  • Fabulous filming of these SUCKERS!!!if you have to feed so many you will get anemia in a hurry!!!So,how does he look now,the sweet thing?

  • @madhubala2009 He is doing much better, thank you. He went back to the vet yesterday and has no more mites and his bloodwork looks much better.

  • It looks terrible! How can you stop this from happening?

  • @chumanho theres this thing called Permectrin fly and louse dust sprinkle some of that in or around where they sleep that will kill them in no time or go to the local feed store n ask they should recommend something

  • @ellanroxy the vet treated him with Frontline and I have used Sevin dust before.

  • @chumanho The vet sprayed him with Frontline and it killed them

  • Thanks for showing this video. I didn't know mites came in that colour. I just found a few in my coop today,..but they're black.

  • I've heard roosters don't usually dust bath,...too proud I guess!

  • Thanks for posting this. I have always heard of this being a problem for a lot of chicken keepers, but never saw what it looked like. Now thanks to you, I know what to look for. Regardless if its mites or lice, as some people are saying, there are solutions to get rid of the no doubt extremely irritating pest. Thanks again for sharing. I hope your boy is better!!!

  • dump some sand in there pen were the sun hits it and they will have like a dust bath they love it my chickens do it all the time

  • that's lice not mites. Poultry mites are red.

  • Was he better after the vet treated him? Feel so sorry to see he was suffering badly with what looked like a thousand of mites crawling all over him!

  • I have read that you cannot see mites with the naked eye. But you sure can see lice. One of my chickens had lice before and this is what it looked like. (Not quite so many, tho!)

  • @escorpio123 Kasia said that their vet sprayed him with Frontline.

  • How do you fight this? I am wondering in case I have a pigeon, and would like to get rid of those horrible animals.

  • Makes me itch! Hope he is better now :)
