People (notably men) seem to be taking this way too seriously. It's called a sense of humor. Obviously not all women feel you have to get a piece of jewelry to feel appreciated. If you don't get this commercial then take your own advice - don't attempt a relationship and have some poor sap have to deal with your lack of perception and humor.
