That would be because Palace Gates IS THAT MAP. It's a remake of the last campaign mission's level in mechwarrior 4 vengeance.

Of all the footage I've seen of this game, I've yet to see an actual mech in action. :/

This is im sure suposed to be the Dresari Palace from MEchwarrior 4...sooo yeah it is a Military map......
