Annapurna Base Camp

Annapurna Base Camp in October 2008. Sunrise started at about 6:15 am. Annapurna Base Camp is in an amphitheatre located at an altitude of 4,130 meters surrounded by 10 mountains between 6,000 - 8,000 meters high. My friend Bharat gave a description of the peaks in this video. The South Face of Annapurna I is 4,000 meters high and was first climbed by Don Whilland and Dougal Haston in 1970. The first ascent of Annapurna (first ever 8,000 meter peak climbed) was made in 1950 from the North Side by the French climbers Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal.
