Price interprets 'Care Selve' from Handel's opera "Atalanta". This aria is the very first aria she sings at the recital and her voice is literally perfect. This debut recital was Feb. 28, 1965 at Carnegie Hall. If you don't appreciate the quality of her voice in this recording then you really should learn more about opera...

  • @SingerForLife3000 I don't think Handel really wrote this aria for a "light Voice." It simply needs a voice that can soar and sustain long flowing phrases. Ms. Price far excels the demands of this piece. If you have a similar voice to that of Price, I'd love to judge that for myself. There is none other that can be compared with HERS. Furthermore, it's good for heavier voices to sing this type of rep which demands that you sing more lyrically and that is the secret of her vocal longevity.

  • Words can't describe. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • @SingerForLife3000 I found another video of Ms. Price singing this aria, recorded two years later, in 1967, and it's absolutely incredible! This performance is good, but for me, the other is breath-taking. Hooray! I was afraid a heavier-voiced Soprano (such as me), simply could not sing this aria to my satisfaction. I stand corrected. Ms. Price "wows" me (and the world, I suppose), once again.

  • OK, I'm going to start some controversy, here. For me, from 1:30 on, the vocal performance is sublime. However, I have a similar voice quality as the great legend, Ms. Price, and I struggle with this aria. To me, the voice seems too heavy for this piece, and so I judge my vocal performances of this song. Similarly, I do not care for the opening of this vocal performances of Ms. Price. She's one of my idols, but, I prefer the heavier voices (mine included) on the more dramatic Pieces.

  • Does Handel ever sound better than with L. Price? They are made for each other.

  • Whoever sings it - and this is up there with the best, though not quite with McCormack - what a start for an opera. And the poor singer, the male lead, who's just done it must also sing the next aria, a lively display piece with tricky phrasing and dynamics. Handel wrote them for the soprano castrato Conti, whose style, according to Burney, was 'new, graceful, and pathetic'. Which ought to rule out a lot of famous interpreters but somehow doesn't. A lot to think about in the long silence.

  • BreathTaking!!

  • 素晴しいLeontyne Priceのソプラノです!
