Flying my Alula (scratchbuild)

I wanted an Alula but they where not currently available. I took some 3 view pics and build a cad model from them. The plans cost 54 cents to print out full size at Staples and I built it that night.

The weight is currently just over 5 ounces and it flies great. I have drawings up for another build for when this one gets destroyed. There are a few changes such as wing construction is refined. and somehow i need to make the nose section stronger along the sides. And improve control linkage.

It has taken some pretty hard hits. It crashed once and broke the nose where the wings join, then once the wings folded. I enlarged the CF spar between the wings to solve the wing fold, and a little glue was enough to solve the broken nose issue.

Still flies great and looks great in the sky next to the real Alula.

I tried scratch-building one as well, but it could not SAL and it tucked under with too much down. Does yours have these problems? Do you have any plans for yours?

I got newer plans i worked out. I messed up on this plane though. The wings are flipped and it came out a bit light and not as stable as i would have liked. Yet to build another one though.

The are very pitch sensitive. so got to have very small throws for elevator. and alot for ailerons.

The newer build is using a KF4 airfoil. 6mm on either side of 3mm with balsa elevons. fliys great so far hand launched, not been to a slope yet with it though.
