That's van Beinum for you. He was " a perfectionist who remained uncorrupted by excessive egotism". He described his relationship with the Concertgebouw Orchestra  as "first among equals". He died while rehearsing Brahms First Symphony with them aged only 59. The three orchestras he was associated with Los Angeles Philharmoinc , London Philharmonic and Amsterdam Cocnertgebouw all loved him.

Quite good but a shade slow; Haitink's 1970 recording with the same orchestra has just as much beauty but at a better tempo.
