Finally, Critical Hit takes a look at Alone in the Dark, for the XBOX 360. This game has received a critical bashing, but is it a fair bashing, or did this game not get its fair chance? Hours and hours of game play footage and editing went into this review, I hope you like it. This is a 2 parter, since there's a lot to cover in this one, I hope to have part 2 up on Saturday. I will also upload this review to Gamevee. I will have some exclusive footage on the COMPLETE Gamevee review. This review covers the basics on story, controls, inventory, and driving. The rest of the gameplay will be covered in part 2.

At the beginning, I am saying quotes or paraphrases from different magazines and websites that rated this game negatively. The following lists what site said what in their review:

Gamepro "A frustrating and inconsistant mess"
IGN "boring combat, frustrating controls, poorly designed levels and a hackneyed story."
X-Play "you have to fumble through the awkward jacket inventory system, which is limited and does not pause the game when you access it"
Gamespy "the DVD skip is only used to avoid an unnecessarily frustrating set piece"
EGM "a shoddy third-person camera, a too-slow first-person mode, and bizarre forced switching between the two."
Planet XBOX 360 "The controls leave quite a bit to be desired; I think the best way to describe them is awkward. "
Gamepro "The paper thin characterizations and remarkably idiotic dialogue obscure the game's shine"
X-play "An actual crate stacking puzzle that involves a forklift"
Gamespy "In the heat of a battle it's immensely frustrating to try to toggle to the item(s) you want as enemies mercilessly wail away at you."
IGN "the cars in this game all feel like cheap cardboard boxes"
Gamestyle "the dialog is embarrassing nonsense that makes it sound like it was written by a fifteen year old emo child"
Gamespy "So-called "tank controls" were acceptable some years ago, but the survival-horror genre has evolved enough to render this sort of gameplay obsolete"
Gamedaily "Alone In the Dark has one of the worst driving stages in a video game. We've hit the New York streets a number of times and ran into stationary, and sometimes invisible, objects that put an end to our joy ride. It's terrible."
X-Play "One part of the game packs more bugs and glitches than you can shake a QA tester at, it is one of the worst driving sequences in the history of action/adventure games."
IGN "there are segments of Alone in the Dark that are so unintuitive and frustrating that you'll be lobbing your controller in exasperation"
Gamepro "there are only so many times you can watch a mace pass harmlessly through someone before you send your controller sailing through the television."
Gamer.nl "The game can be compared to a puppy without potty training. You want to keep him so badly, but everytime it seems to go right, it bites, scratches and sh.ts on your carpet. "
Gamestyle "It's so laughably bad that this could be considered this generations Rise of the Robots or Superman 64."

Did you actually watch the whole review? I said I liked the game. I even gave it an 8.4 at the end of the review, although in hindsight I would probably give it a 7.5. And I dont use the "gradeschool" system that reviewing websites used but rather more of a rating system like movie and music critics used, except they use out of 5 instead of out of 10.
