The Hornady 22 WMR ammunition delivers the pinnacle of rimfire performance. Its 30 gr VMAX bullet leaves the muzzle at 2,200 feet per second, and delivers levels of accuracy never before seen from this cartridge, and excellent terminal performance out to 125 yards.
In reading through some of the comments, I think some folks who just cite the raw specs - 30 gr bullet at 2200 fps, 40 gr at 1900, etc. - haven't seen in practice how frangible .22 WMR hollowpoints are.
Comparing them to hypervelocity .22 LRs, such as the Stinger, isn't really valid because, frankly, Stingers shoot like crap in everything I've ever seen. Many manufacturers (thinking specifically of Ruger's 10/22) have a warning in the owner's manual about using them.

As an ardent .22 WMR user, I'd like to say thanks to Hornady for bringing us these new ammunition choices.
I see that the 30 grain VMax leaves a rifle barrel at about 2200 fps. What are the specs for the 25 grain NTX?

@jaratt85 Maybe some people want something that shoots flatter? I personally don't have experience with this particular ammo but I would assume that unlike a .22LR it wouldn't drop as much past 100 yards, like the end of the video where the guy is hunting prairie dogs, something like this could be very useful for those situations. But to each their own as to the application of their ammunition right?

@Sooprazn ai that I am.. what I meant was that there just doesnt seem to be a point of paying all the extra money for a lighter slug that goes faster. if someone wanted to they could make a 30 grain or 28 grain 22lr go over 2000FPS but theres a reason why 32 is the smallest, anything smaller isnt going to impart energy into the target its just going to go straight through. I guess a .223 is the real 22 mag :P

@jaratt85 It's not always about bullet weight. The velocity of this stuff is pretty high. Some of the higher .22LR cartridges max out at about 1700fps, this goes above and beyond the fastest .22LR. (I assume that by "regular" 22 you are referring to "Long Rifle")

wow 30 grain... thats smaller than even the smallest CCI regular 22 bullet.. Stingers are 32 grain 1640 FPS.. not much of a step up for a 22 mag.. seems pointless

My Savage 93 likes this round. 1/2" groups @ 100 yards.

@79Testo Actually, the hollowpoint did the job without ruining the fur (with .22win mag). This Hornady load is very accurate but the bullets passed through. I cannot comment on .22LR since I have no experience to speak of at this distance. If I was going to use a 22LR, I'd probably use a Stinger since they seem to pack more power (but can cause malfunctions on semi-autos, therefore bolt action is recommended). And I would not shoot an animal farther than 50 meters. Just my .02 cent....

@10Lav
also how is this round on pelt damage for a fur bearing animal. I don't want damage on my Coon, Fox if I shoot with a .22 Mag rifle.
Hollowpoints do more damage. So I steer clear of them.

@10Lav
How well would the .22LR do on the Red Fox and to what distance?
