I've been keen to work on something with Jon ( http://www.youtube.com/user/FlyingHorseKnuckles )since I saw his video "Restitution", which featured (as well as brilliant music) a collection of wonderful pencil drawings. While I was writing this song, I could think of no better way of forging this link; eager to see Jon's interpretation.

I've never met Jon, nor may I ever, but through our love of our art, maybe it could be said we're already well acquainted. It's a pleasure working with someone so talented. In Jon's own words, "the project was worthwhile, if only for our mutual benefit", but I hope others enjoy it too.

Here it is...

P.S. 'Watch in high quality' recommended

Black Dog

It was born years before the storm
Always close, it's hard to feign morose
See them there, blindly unaware?
Like to know what they do

Like some days it's hard to clear the haze
Look to you to tell me what to do
Try to find the key to what's inside
Wonder if you knew

Can you see it hanging around?
Black dog won't you tell me where you're bound?
Can you see it hanging around?
Black dog won't you tell me where you're bound?

Dreams are sent to feed and supplement
For when I wake my light then it will take
Leave me be, with sorrow leant to me
I'm fine here by myself

Can you see it hanging around?
Black dog won't you tell me where you're bound?
Can you see it hanging around?
Black dog won't you tell me where you're bound?

Wasn't meant to be
Someone else set free
Wasn't meant to be
Someone else set free
Someone else set free
Wasn't meant to be
Someone else set free
Someone else set free

It was born years before the storm
Always close, it's hard to feign morose
See them there blindly unaware?
Like to know what they do

  • Beautiful work, both of you! 5 for sure :)

    Kris

  • Cheers Kris

  • Definitely among the very highest quality entertainment I've seen on youtube. Thanks so much! Like most, I took the dog at face value, not as a symbol, but after reading the explanation I watched again and enjoyed it even more. Bravo!

  • Glad you enjoyed, bardsrback

  • I really like this song - and the video!!

  • It's not easy... Letting go of my black dog... :S

nice metaphor... oh why can't she love me back now... :(

  • @McdaMahon

    You are wrong...

This isn't meant to be a cover of Led Zeppelin.

This is an original by Kris Rowley.

  • this isnt the original ,Led Zeppelin was the first band to make that song and you need to delete this video cause you dont know what your talking about.

  • I love the picture of the dude playing the guitar left handed flipped upsidedown. Left handed guitars aren't always that easy to come by.

  • @cognitiveguerilla cause your a cry baby ha ha

  • You deserve to go far, Kris. The song and the video is beautiful.

  • Cognitiveguerilla i know what you mean.. im lucky enough to have grown up with him.. he's a good guy.. could be a knob sometime but who isnt.. he's an amazing musician just ask to hear the song he wrote about his father and you'll hear real beauty

  • hey dude remember after we recorded this song you did all that acid then made that downs syndrome chick take her clothes off then you inserted that broking tv antenna inside her colon and punched her in the eye saying that should fix her

  • Finally someone who combines good lyrics with good music. Music today is on a downward shift, reverting back to the fortys and fiftys and some cases finding the eightys.horrible. this guy is good
