iowne1 - please get your facts straight! (read above!) Tom McEwan-Walker team never went anywhere near the YIGONG Tsangpo. They were attempting to paddle the YARLUNG Tsangpo - an entirely different river!! This was most definitely a first descent. (and the last section of the Yigong Tsangpo is still un-run.)
Tasngpo simply means "River" in Tibetan language - so the confusion lies in the fact there is many "Tsangpos" in Tibet.

Not the first descent! Tom McEwan-Walker Team were there first

I met Scott Lingren a few years ago on the Truckee river in No. CA and talked to him about Wick Walker (author of Courting the Diamond Sow, former US olympic paddler and member/leader of the ill-fated 1998 attempt of the Tsangpo). Essentially Lingren felt that the1998 expedition was vastly underprepared for the river, especially when it came to scouting -contrastly, his expedition went off relatively smoothly and was hailed a success; his footage is in the first Burning Time video.

amazing
For anyone interested on whitewater exploration in Tibet the following two books are on Amazon:
Hell or High Water: Surviving Tibet's Tsangpo River is not authored by Scott Lindgren. (as suggested below) It is written by Peter Heller.
Courting the Diamond Sow : A Whitewater Expedition on Tibet's Forbidden River is by Wick Walker.
We're also getting a few more videos up on Youtube as we find the time to edit and post. Hope you like them!

Scott has never been on the Yigong Tsangpo.....nor have the Kern Brothers who I assume you are referring to. The confusion here lies in the name. Tsangpo simply means "River" in Tibet. The Yarlung Tsangpo is the most famous of course so it often incorrectly gets called the "Tsangpo". There are hundreds of "Tsangpos" in Tibet!
