Yes you can keep them as pets - if you have to. I have one that my kids rescued from our cat - they nursed it back to health but by the time it was well enough to be let go - it was too cold to just set it outside. By the time it was warm out - the mouse was not going to be able to fend for itself. That was 7 (yes SEVEN) years ago and we still have her. She's really a cool little mouse. Loves to run on her wheel with treats!

@corncake3000 i don't think it would be very happy as a pet, and it would not be easy to keep as it's jumping everywhere. i believe it's a field mouse (eurasian type, "apodemus"), as we don't seem to have deer mouse (peromyscus maniculatus) in europe.

we don't have those mice in europe, so it's probably not a deer mouse (or one with great swimming potential); though they look pretty much the same...
