I drove an elise in the Gt 5 at the Top Gear test track ,i did not like it had just a too much of an every kind of steer to sudden,so i know how tricky it behaves on the limits.

That's not a normal roof. Steve runs the car on the hillclimb with an additional cowl over the rear, to help aero. It clearly doesn't stay on if you run the car backwards too fast! :)

Steve's actually a really good driver 99% of the time, although this looks like he made a mistake.
