@jksonny There are many factors to alcoholism, in addition to the alcohol, living with an unrepentant cheating,emotionally abusive man is another..That was my point..

@westnar1 My point was that an alcoholic drinks because they're an alcoholic. If Sue Ellen had been married to a wonderful, giving person, she would have still been an alcoholic.

It was ridiculous that everyone blamed JR for Sue Ellen's alcoholism. Being an alcoholic is no one's "fault." Certainly, the people in an alcoholic's life need to be supportive to help that person overcome their addiction. But, ultimately, alcoholics are responsible for their own decisions (just like everyone else).
