It was 1970, Christmas day. The house on Dickenson Street was filled with the noise of children laughing and presents being ripped open. I don't really have any sound but I would image that's what you would hear. Uncle Mike and Larry are watching the TV on top of the TV. Sue and a guest arrive to join the fun.

  • This is exactly how I remember the world of 1970 looking. That was a long time ago. I tell my kids stories about that time and they think I am lying to them. Maybe it is the part about us having a dinosaur in our backyard they have trouble with? Anyway, the only thing missing from this video is adults chain smoking. I guess your house was healthier than ours. My Dad died from a smoking related illness at 75 and Mom quit 17 years ago and doubled her weight. She now has diabetis.

  • If you look at some of the older videos, you'lls ee the chain smoking. it floored me when I say all of the smokers holding us a babies. I guess we survived it.

  • notice something the kids are delighted with their toys and not a computer game in sight kids expect too much today

  • Thanks for sharing this video; like so many, I wished we had recorded our experiences of Christmas way back when. Christmas 1970 was particularly special for our family; probably the best we had, as one of the last where we were all gathered together in one house, relatives and all. How I miss it. It's become so commercialized, but worse than that, it's become so "politicized" as well; it takes all the fun out of it. Is it just me, or did Christmas seem so much more festive in those times?

  • On Christmas day 1978 l got a tiny tears doll I was a happy 4 year old that day.......

  • Christmas morning always smelled like Avon aftershave lotion, and soap on a rope....LOL miss those simple days!

  • I guess the TV needed some tubes.

  • I'm trying to calculate if there's more plastic in the toys or covering that couch.

  • my first christmas was in 1970 and it was in Toronto, Canada

  • I used to have a Batman bop bag until my sister's boyfriend punched it and his ring popped it. Sigh...

  • Christmas is still my fav time of year but back then: my brothers had to sleep on the floor beside the Christmas tree to guard the gifts from me and my sister - we would get up in the middle of the night and keep checking for Santa, my mother would switch the tags on the gifts then switch them back, we would lift the scotch tape with precision and then seal it back on, watch the sleigh in the sky - just good times.
