This is a playthrough of a prototype of Deadlight, a concept we worked on at Blue52 before it closed. This demo was created from scratch by a team of 13 people in only six weeks. See the Deadlight post on my blog for details.

  • Yeah, Cold Fear had some similarities with Deadlight; notably the setting and survival horror gameplay. It was released a year after this prototype was made, of course, and isn't based on the manipulation of light (Alan Wake picked up some of what we wanted to do there instead).

  • Yeah, would've been something to fix, for sure. Still, it was only made in six weeks; there's plenty about it that wasn't quite right. :)

  • Is the newly announced Xbox 360 game Deadlight the rebirth of this game?

  • @Dae19832454 Totally coincidental. It's just the same name! (Looks great though :) )

  • This game REALLY should have been made for Wii. There's not much competition (if any) on that console.

With games like Fatal Frame being cancelled, and not much else going on for the Wii, you could've really had a chance to succeed in the horror market You guys weren't one of those development groups who always ignore Nintendo consoles and its gamers, are you?

...because that sucks, and is very unfortunate for those starving on Nintendo console almost every generation since the N64.

  • @JasonMabone Ignored the Wii? We made Fluidity/Hydroventure for Nintendo, one of the highest rated Wii games of 2010. Check it out.

  • cold fear!! anybody?

  • That's pretty goddamn impressive. Is it possible you could elaborate on the lighting and shadowing by explaining how you guys managed it? I assume you guys had to use both Vector Units to make this happen? I guess the individual loading of rooms helped to manage resources as well?

  • is this the same game thats coming to xbl?

  • БЛИН,выглядит офигенно!

  • @JasonMabone Actually the last time I checked the licensing was about 2 years ago, back when the Wii wasn't about to be faised out, but I'm sure the Wii U isn't going to be that much different license wise than the Wii. I have been working on a Kinect control scheme, but honestly the Numchuck is where it's at for movement.

  • @RunandGunPictures

Do you mean Wii U? I'd love to see your work for that system and/or maybe 3DS as well.

To be honest, I don't know if the Wii U is going to be indy-friendly or not, but have you looked into it?

If Nintendo remains to be to restricting, they'll lose out on some really great ideas that gamers could have enjoyed.

  • @JasonMabone Not connected to this game BTW, I'm talking about SuckerFree Games, sorry... It's in this vain though, style, gameplay wise.

  • @JasonMabone Our next project is a Penumbra style game and the system I'd love to develop it for is the Wii... Sadly, their licensing is just too restrictive and anti-indie... I mean $100,000 in assets, permanent office space and a 5 digit licensing fee just isn't in the cards for us. 360, PC, iPhone, WP7, Android now those are in the cards.

  • Hey, that music was used in Afraid of monster :o
