Paro Airport, Bhutan

Fear factor: Bhutan's Paro International Airport is one of the world's dangerous landing strips. For it's not so much the landing strip that's scary, but the tricky maneuver needed as you race past 16,500 ft-high jagged Himalayan Mountains. This is arguably the world's most unique airport to fly into. Once you've escaped the icy peaks, your pilot has got to glide through tree-covered valleys and control the plane as it hits vicious winds whipping round the mountains. It requires specially trained pilots to maneuver into this stomach-dropping aerie by employing visual flying rules and then approaching and landing through a narrow channel of vertiginous tree-covered hillsides.

Plane spotter: Fear not, this shouldn't stop you visiting beautiful Bhutan. In fact, the landing is an adrenalin-filled must to a very spiritual and outdoor adventure in this stunning country. Thankfully, pilots are specially trained to handle the flight-in, as unique flying skills apply, so you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Who Flies to Bhutan : Druk Air, the national carrier.

Connections: Bhutan is well connected with the modern world through the National Air Line, Druk Air (KB), which is equipped with the Air Bus 319. There are frequent flights to Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati in India, Dhaka in Bangladesh, Kathmandu in Nepal and Bangkok in Thailand.
