I understand where you're coming from, but I still believe that ignoring these people altogether would prove a far greater point, and be far more effective, than any counter-protest.

Unfortunately these types of videos and counter-protests play right into the WBC's hands. It's exactly what they want. They feed off it.
Just imagine if they picketed somewhere and everyone simply went about their business and completely ignored them. Imagine how dumb these people would feel. They'd have to wallow in their own misery and pathetic existence alone.
Completely ignoring them would hit them harder than any counter-protest or YouTube video ever could.

Yes, that is true. The WBC does play off of these videos...but this wasn't made for them. This was made for everyone else who may not understand whats going on. Its to help spread awareness of the hate that goes on in the US. And this counter-protest was actually pretty successful. I have had a ton of people coming to me and asking questions about the whole thing. This counter-protest video has done more good than harm.
