Imei shows you how to do the Vibration Shimmy (aka shiver or locked shimmy). The vibration shimmy is not to be confused with a fast Egyptian shimmy, and is more of an embellishment than something you should do for an entire piece of music. Included is a practice piece of music, so you can see how to incorporate it in a drum solo.

  • Hi again - I finally got it today!

After reading your advice and putting together what I already had in principle I succedded.

What I had been doing wrong, was just vibrating through one leg - do not ask me why - but then I tried with both legs and what do ya know? - It worked . . .

Thanks for all your videos - really nice and helpful!

keep up the good work and happy dancing!

  • @juliablanche Hurray! Sup'h YAY! Glad you go it to work for you, and I'm glad the tips were helpful.

  • interesting video.

I am still unable to completely master the vibration shi8mmy.

I think I have the idea but I have sought advice from Leyla Jouvana my teacher and also Princess Farhana but still seems to go no further.

    Maybe I am just a total idiot . . . .

  • @juliablanche The vibration shimmy is not as critical to learn as the others (Egyptian, Cabaret, 3/4 shimmy). Another way to practice: lay down on the ground, pretend to feel cold, and lock everything tight like you are shivering. That should give you a better idea of what it feels like when you are standing up, using the same movement as it travels up your body from the floor to the belly. You're not an idiot; it's a strange movement. :)

  • are your knees locked here?

  • @rvsaid1989 They are fixed, but not locked.

please can u show us the difference between all those shimmies??? please

i only know the 3/4 shimmy and the normal shimmy with locking your knees i dont know other shimmy's buth the shimmy you show here, you cant do that shimmy with walking? right?

  • @artisticplayer4 That's a great question. Depending on who you talk to, there are the following general categories: 1) Egyptian shimmy, 2) hip shimmy, 3) three-quarter shimmy (ups or downs), 4) vibration/shiver/locked shimmy, 5) gluteal shimmy. Most others are variations on these, such as traveling shimmies using these techniques (as an example). Diagonal shimmies could be seen as a variation as well, though so few people do them, you might want to consider them a category of their own. ;)
