What an incredibly juxtoposed arrangement - a cello singing this infamous Bach harpsichord aria theme, supported by the airy flute pipes of the organ he mastered ... how exquisite. Sweet musica.

@zouna87 yo yo ma is playing the cello like the viola da gamba in that he removed the centre pin and allows the cello to rest on his calfs, with his legs slightly crossed. This was the traditional posture. He described it as becoming more intimate playing.

I love this movement, and yes, Ma and Koopman are awesome together. I'd also love to hear a recording with Pieter Wispelwey. I wonder if he's done the Variations before...
