this technique favours macro type shots

This is pretty obvious for most users but some newbies might appreciate the tip

compared to the various dslr lenses you can buy - the HVX built in lense is pretty damn capable !

considering that it can go as wide as f1/.7 and this is a zoom lense - you can achieve quite shallow DOF with the camera you already have.

There is a trick to maxing out shallow dof for macro type shots

you must be in everything manual mode for this trick

1.zoom in on the lense to the max it will allow while still giving you a zero reading on the mf (ie you are focused on something right next to the lense) - this point will be at around "Z78"

2.open the iris right up - this will give you around f 2.4

3.adjust nds/ shutter speed to expose correctly

now you can get a pretty good macro shallow dof

example here using the lense cover and a phone about 1 ft away from the camera - shallow or what !

for noise minimisation i use the bstretch setting


experiment and see what you can achieve
