In June 1994 the National Model Railroad Assoiation and the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club co-sponsored a special train on the C&TS. The train featured a representative collection of D&RGW narrow gauge freight cars. In Part 1 we watch the doubleheaded train depart the Chama yard behind K27 #463 and K36 #489, and then we follow it up as far as Coxo before driving on over the passes and into Osier.

  • @nchighlandscot Subscribe to CumbresToltec Channel if you want to keep up-to-date on all happenings at the C&TS including frequent updates on the 463.

Also, since you seem to have an interest in things Celtic, check out my "Videos Without Trains" playlist. You might find some entertainment to your liking there (;-)).

  • @nchighlandscot Two that I know of:. the #463 (currently under restoration in Monte Vista, CO) and the #464 currently running on the Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan).

  • I was at Friends, that's where I found the tank car info, but I didn't find anything on locos. Guess I'll have to look again.

  • look up friends of cumbres toltec it will tell that 463 was under steam in 1994!

  • Excuse me, as I have pointed out previously when people challenge the accuracy of my facts: I NEVER MAKE MISTAKES!!

However, I will concede that you could maybe be correct. Especially since I just learned that the tank cars did not appear in Chama until 1992.

Also, I just noticed that the label attached to the VHS says, in my very own handwriting, "C&TS NMRA/RMR FRT SPECIAL JUN 1994. But the time/date signature on the video says June 18, 1991.

So, who do I believe: me, myself, or you? (:-{)

  • I can't speak to the entire year of 1991, but on June 18, 1991 the 463 was very much under steam.

  • um 463 was not under steam in 1991!

  • Love that ol' sweet sounding whistle, hard to catch great steam like this these days. thx friend for sharing this!
