Autism Stem Cell Trip

Our family's trip to Costa Rica (Feb 2009) for stem cell therapy for our autistic son. Includes Phoenix airport, Houston airport and hotel, San Jose airport and hotel (The Apartotel Cristina), The Institute for Cellular Medicine (Drs. Tomas and Lara), La Sabana Park, the multiplex mall.

@aratakke Thank you. Tomorrow is back to school for both of our kids. Johnny is still nonverbal and severely affected by autism. He's got a good teacher, though, and many people who love him.  We ARE happy most of the time. Thanks.

thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures from your trip. your family is beautiful and wish you all the best. I wanted to try the cell steam therapy with my son who is autistic and non verbal. Please let me know if you saw any improvements and if you consider to go back

@RTabaku No, we haven't seen any improvements and have no plans to go back anytime soon. We had a great experience with the doctors and staff. Everyone was wonderful, but with no obvious gains, it's not worth the huge expense to do it again. If we DID, we'd have the cells injected straight into his spinal column fluid, instead of IV injections. The parents who have done this seem to report better gains.

Hi, You are going on 2 years post stem cell . . . what is your final verdict about what you have seen in your son? We are also 2 years post stem cell and here are my observations. Drake has had major gut improvement - no more rapid transit thru the gi tract. He has gained about 40# in 2 years. No change in seizures per month, but he is recovering faster from them. He also generally sleeps more at night. It is all very subtle things that only a primary care person or a Mom would notice.

Your son looks awfully young in this. Two questions. Did he consent or ask for this procedure? Did he tell you he was unhappy with the way he was?
