  • Outstanding OM! From one QRPer to another congratulations. Here I thought San Francisco to SE Australia at 7112 miles was a haul! (see my Dec 2012 video for the QSO in that).

Have you used the N9SSA MPW tool? Go see what your miles per watt for that QSO was.

  • Holy cow! I am just getting into Ham and I would absolutely love to do QRP. This post is incredibly inspiring!

  • I love this video. There are many that don't believe that this can be done. I sometimes join the net with John EA7BA and try to work the lads down under. I have also managed it with 5 watts from my 817nd. Just to echo what everyone else has said too. Where did you get that tuning knob?

  • Heh, I just heard VK2WS talking to EA7BA on the same frequency. Nice to see friends from across the world keeping in touch :).

  • Same question as Combatwombat71, where'd you get that tuning knob? I like!

  • The 817 is an amazing rig. I use one with an indoor random wire antenna with excellent results. QRP is very underestimated and ultimately more satisfying when making contacts thousands of miles away on 5 watts.

  • Nice video. I used to have an FT817 with DSP and the CW filter, and I guess I miss it. Your tuning knob doesn't look standard... can you elaborate? 73 - VK2GOM

  • GØWSP....Very good....Indeed, all one needs is five watts to work the world. Great video. Have fun.
