An awesome documentary on the Chicago Spire, featuring interviews with the architect, developer and many more + an indepth, well animated and easy-to-understand explanation on the construction techniques employed to build this magnificent tower.
enjoy :)

  • I wish someone with some knowledge/interest in architecture would comment here instead of the usual bunch of know-nothings who have nothing much to say.

  • So how long do you guys think it will be on "hold"? or will they just eventually tear the hole down and just abandon the spire...? i was really looking forward to seeing the spire done... =[

  • Easier said than done i guess

  • Waterview, halted in early 2008, is STILL rotting as a 23 story concrete carcass with no plans to finish or bury it At least it blends well into the Wacker Dr street wall.

Chicago dodged a bullet on this one when you think of it. It's just a hole in the ground, barely visible. If worked had started two years earlier, the project may have stalled when this thing was a half-completed concrete hulk - like Waterview Tower. What a blight that would have been on Chicago's lakefront skyline.

  • hopefully they build another cool building in the spires place since it was cancelled like a year ago!

  • R.I.P Chicago Spire

  • Am I the only one who sees the irony in them using Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony" as the soundtrack at the start of this video?

  • Project cancelled.

  • @xmegtini I dont think so becase i went their two week ago from Houston the first thing i saw when i steped out of the car in up in the parking garage was the construction site and it was emty just the hole the dug.

but it think it will be done sometime it's the economy, this place will be bait for money!!!

  • the building was scheduled to resume next year! they got 170 mil from the united construction workers

  • some of this construction just on the drawing not in the real, isn't it?

  • on wikipedia it says its resumed
