A clip from track 7, "The Wisdom of Solomon", from my NEW ALBUM, "Apollo's Lyre" ...

"Apollo's Lyre" features original compositions arranged for both the wooden & skin-membrane lyres of the Ancient World, composed in the actual musical modes/scales of Antiquity - including the Ancient Greek Modes, an ancient Egyptian scale, and in this piece, the Hebrew "Misheberakh" Mode.

  • The Hebrew Misheberakh Mode? Is this mode a derivative of the HArmonic minor scale? Definitely doesnt sound like a major scale derivative! Very dark and mysterious!

  • @Arrow9100kj This same mode, still heard in Jewish Klezmer music today, can also be heard in a frgament of ancient Greek music called "Tecmessa's Lament" - in ancient Greece, this mode was known as the "Chromatic Phrygian Mode" - equivalent intervals as : DEFG#ABCD

  • Is there any relationship between the ancient greek music for Apollo and the wisdom of Solomon???How are they connected???

  • @uboot1967 The concept of this album, is an exploration of musical modes from around the ancient world performed on replica lyres of the ancient world, not just the ancient Greek modes. However, the Hebrew Misheberakh mode can also be found in an example of ancient Greek music! It is called "Tecmessa's Lament"(recorded on "Musique de la Grece Antique")...coincindence, or evidence of an ancient cross-cultural exchange of musical ideas? • @Klezfiddle1 I think Greeks and Jews have a few things in common.Anyway,it is a very good job.
