even thou the album (diamond eyes) was a commercial success, sell more than they expected It was the band's highest charting album on the Billboard 200 since their self tittled! ...i agree with you all, it was a amazing cd but a quick one for the fans, just to put something out, i dont know, is a love-hate-love situation!
Moreno especially has made dozens of remarks with heavy emphasis on the fact that Diamond Eyes was written, recorded and released faster than White Pony or SNW or their self-titled: They made the album for the sake of doing it. As a favor to the fans partially, but mainly due to the fact that Chi is still recovering and the band doesn't know yet if they'll wait until a full recovery to release Eros, which Stephen describes as a "dark" and "unorthodox" album that creates a new Deftones entity.
@brandito27 For me, the single 'Rocket Skates' grabbed my attention like a slap in the face. Diamond Eyes the song didn't do much for me on first listen, but after hearing my favorite track from the album "CMND/CTRL", the rest of the album just clicked. I'd like to point out that this is not a style that is permanent. It is very temporary. The entire band has stated that they made this album for THE FANS and as a distraction for themselves. Eros they say is VERY different from everything.
@Drratburn But adrenaline was a great album. Diamond Eyes took a while for me to get into, with it having a lighter vibe, in both lyrics and sound but Diamond Eyes is a great album too. You know what they say sometimes change is for the best.
@metalirocz28 Your right...I wonder why they allowed promotional videos to feature clips from older albums - considering the Deftones have said over and over again that they want to distance themselves from the past with Diamond Eyes, which might only be temporary, but in a lot of ways, they aren't the Deftones right now. They recorded their new album without any planning, they went into it like they did Adrenaline - improvisation meets portions of pre-conceived ideas.
@joeytac Cheers!
