On a balmy spring afternoon in April 2007, Reid Stowe and Soanya Ahmand set sail from Hoboken, NJ for a 1000 day sea voyage aboard thier seventy fook, gaff-rigged Schooner Anne. By spending nearly three years on the high seas without stopping or re-supplying, they would surpass all continuous sailing records, pushing the boundaries of human perserverance and self-sustenance.
On day 306, eleven miles offshore of Perth, Australia, Soanya was transferred safely to land by Stuart Walton of the Perth Yacht Club. Back in New York, Soanya gave birth to Darshen on day 452. Committed to the vision, Reid continued the journey alone at great risk. The 1000 Days at Sea voyage is a supreme act of seamanship demanding sustained mental and athletic endurance -- a voyage of the mind and of the heart.

This video combines Samuel Saint Thomas' song, "Sailin Away," and photographs culled from the first 300 days of the voyage. It was released on day 888 of the voyage.

  • Reid is a genuine hero. It is strange that there was no parade for this man. He will go down as a legend of the sea. I hope someday to meet him. God bless you my friend. I followed you for a thousand plus days.
