Recently whilst shopping with mum I decided to purchase myself my own video camera.
I got a Sony DCR-SX20.
Using a homebuilt camera mount (attaches via passenger headrest rails) I recorded a short trip from my local servo to Manuka and back.
Audio was great, shame I had the radio too loud thus why we have no audio.
Total clip length was about 29 minutes or so. scaled down to 9min 40 sec 'ish to fit within the 10 minute limit.
Editing software: Sony Vegas Pro 9.0
Camera: Sony DCR-SX20
Capture Mode: HQ Widescreen (720x576) @ 9356kbps @ 25fps (PAL)
Video Codec: DivX "Home theature"
Vehicle: 1996 Mazda 121 Bubble Car
Location: Around Canberra and Queanbeyan
Mount: Homebrew headrest mount with standard tripod 3 DOF mount.
Thoughts on the camera: The DCR-SX20 is a great little camera for family recording and under ideal conditions and better consumption of the instruction manual maybe some basic small screen recording.
One of the strong points about this camera is that it's solid state, that means no moving parts inside (apart from the focusing mechanism but that is not noticable) to upset the built in microphone. In the general world of video camera work its considered bad that a camera has no external microphone input. Whilst this one lacks the microphone input and av input as seen on many cameras, it makes up for it for its Dolby (TM) certified audio and trust me, it sounds GREAT.
Gripes, No EVF so you have to use the LCD screen which is good quality but still a pain. No real manual focus, just the ability to set it to a few settings and infinity.
Overall for a consumer product I give it a 4/5
Coming Next... Lazy wash xD
good quality even at night and in a moving car
