For a long time, this was the only footage of the Woods Battle at the Pennsic War available to the public. It was shot by an intrepid group of videographers from Brooklyn, Duckball Home Video, at the 20th Pennsic War.

It is part of "The Pennsic War: A Video Documentary," available from Watch This Space Enterprises at http://www.captainzorikh.com/wts and on Amazon.com

For more about this 68-minute documentary, with its 47 minutes of bonus footage and extra features, go to

  • Wow, that is a rare find. I vaguely remember yelling "Kill them all!" as the rainbow warriors munched that unit (1:56). Weird to see video evidence.

  • @Skutai Not so rare. About 400 VHS copies of the original documentary were sold through ads in Tournamens Illuminated in the early 1990's, and about 400 more on VHS and 250 on DVD through ads, the website, from dealers, and on Amazon.com since 2001.

"Kill the all" eh? what was that "Rainbow Warrior" thing all about, anyway?

  • one year the Queens flag was hastily planted in a thicket which they later found out was guarded by hornets!!! the hornets kept the flag and were undefeated!!

  • @returntopennsic

    Well said.

  • @F22Rapter2468 Three banners went into the woods, one held by the East, one by the Middle and one planted somewhere else. Whoever had the most banners at the end of the battle won. Every It was his honor to do the most he could to delay the enemy as long as possible. He gloriously stalled them by valiantly battling them with his wits. There is glory in wisdom, after all... ;)

Oh, so it was like, a "Capture as many flags in X amount of time" thing? Meh, it's a decent strategy, I guess, but I simply think would have fought. Just imagine the props for that ever-so-slight chance of coming out on top...

  • @F22Rapter2468 I heard the guy talking about the incident. If he had fought they would have killed him instantly, grabbed the banner and run. Instead, by being all chivalrous and diplomatic, he was able to delay them from taking the banner and moving it. Note how he makes a point of shaking everyone's hand and talking and joking with them all as the precious moments tick away...

  • Aw... The guy with the banner at the end should never have surrendered like that... 2-handed spear, or not - killing at least one man before going down in a stream of blood would have made that banner much more of a trophy...

  • There used to be a video where there was a guy in a wheelchair type thing and he fought and someone else pushed him into battle. I used to have that video, but lost it. It was like a documentary, because they asked one guy why he did stuff like this and he said it was better than killing somebody or something like that. If anyone knows where I can view this video again please let me know.

  • I believe they were the precursors to todays Markland Army.

  • Brings back good memories and that odd feeling of fighting in a place one year & then parking or camkping in it the next.
