In his 6-part oral history interview, director/producer Gary Smith talks about his early years and his college career in set designing. He goes on to discuss his professional set designing on Perry Como's Kraft Music Hall and The Judy Garland Show. He briefly touches on his producing Hullabaloo and then talks in detail about his collaborating with director/producer Dwight Hemion. He talks about their producing of the many television specials starring Ann-Margret, Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Herb Alpert and Shirley MacLaine and he discusses his projects without Hemion, such as The Tony Awards and the AFI series of "100 Years" shows. Smith's interview concludes with he and Hemion together discussing the television specials in more detail and their partnership company.
