A life sized photographic sculpture representing a Japanese Kamikaze torpedo called a "Kaiten". From an exhibition by Katsushige Nakahashi entitled "The Depth of Memory".
Nakahashi photographed the entire surface of a toy model Kaiten (Japanese kamikaze torpedo) at 1:32 scale producing more than 20,000 photographs. These images were assembled, with Nakahashi's oversight, in Camerawork's gallery to create a 50-foot simulacrum of the infamous "suicide submarine." Over 100 volunteers assisted in the construction during the artist's six-week residency at SF Camerawork Gallery in San Francisco. Curated by Aaron Kerner and Chuck Mobley.
