(CM2) Coin Master 2 is an updated version of my Lego Mindstorms NXT Coin Sorter. Dump your coins into it's newly designed dual action separator and they are more quickly sorted, counted and totaled. A newly designed synchronized separator/sorting containment system increases coin processing. The sorter uses only 2 NXT motors to accomplish it's task. A Lego figure points to the detected coin value as it slides past the NXT light sensor and triggers the indicator light on the control panel.

Well if you need to do about 1000 coins if you save a big pot, just make a large one of these, and put 500 coins in, while there sorting watch tv, then in 30 min put 500 more in, then presto, you gave give all the pennies to charrity

Hmm, this is awesome!!! Wow, such a great accomplishment. Although, to make it even faster, you should go ahead and give the sorting bin it's ouwn motor. If you did that, then you don't have to constantly reposition it to the penny bin. The increased spead would be spectacular. I definately wish I had the gift of two functions out of one motor. I know of one way, which is to use a floating worm, but you think out of the box. Great job!!!

Thanks for the nice comment. Actually the sorting bins have to be aligned to the 'dime' bin each time due to the operation of the coin detector. Even if I used a separate motor for moving the sorting bins this alignment is required.

Yeah, I meant to say dime. :) But still, it could improve the speed. For example, if it sorts a penny, instead of quickly going back, it has to go all the way around, back to the dime. Oh, and sorry for the double post...lol.
NXTFreak 3 years ago
Your right, for example if it detected a penny then just backed one to the dime bin instead of going around to the dime bin. The speed would increase using this backing up method if a penny or quarter was detected. One problem though it would defeat my passion of multi function motor use. :)
The double post is not an issue, it just made it look like we're really into some deep discussion about this thing..lol

The first coin sorter used a vertical rotating coin size detector. The size of the pieces that detected the type of coin would not retain the coin between each testing section. The coin would have to side back to hold it while the next size detector piece rotated into place. Another reason I used this detector tilting mechanism for the first sorter was so the separator and it's ramp could be lower.

Ok, lets say a penny slides down to the detector. It will not slide by because it is too big to pass because the detector is currently positioned at default which is to only pass a dime. The NXT now knows that the coin is not a dime because nothing passed the light sensor. The NXT program now increments a variable which now becomes set to 1. The detector then rotates and the penny slides down past the light sensor and the NXT now knows the coin is a penny which is a variable value of 1.
