Westphalianprinz is my non-commercial U-tube channel. Yes, he hunted raccoons with them, and trialed the dogs. We have night trials for coonhounds in the US. He also sold them all over the US. You have to have that many dogs to have consistent trial stock. Most of his dogs were pups in training.

What for? Why? My goodness that is like a flock/herd of dogs?
Why would anyone have so many dogs - actually 50 - 100 hounds is a good circus to watch.
I live in
Canada and I understand that over in the UK people do use packs of dogs to hunt with - over here we use 1 gun each verses screaming wild banchie hound dogs - they are very loud and would most probablly warn the animals to get out or start running for their lives.
Did your teacher hunt?

To tell you the truth I do not imagine that are even 50 - 100 of these dogs in the surrounding 100 mile radius - make that 500 mile radius.

Wow - that is surely many dogs to care for - I thought I had my hand full with 2 dogs but 50 - 100 dogs ..........my goodness that really must have been a circus to watch.
I took Jack up to my parents estate and the dog almost ran away on us - I would imagine that having 50-100 dogs woud really be a challenge - but then again all one has to do is wave some food around and the hounds will most likely listen to their master(s).

Hounds are good dogs. My grandfather used to have large numbers of foxhounds, and twice a year he and the other members of the foxhound club got together and turned out 50 to 100 foxhounds. Most foxhounds are trained to leave deer alone, but if one foxhound goes after a deer, they all will (because deer are a more natural prey species for a dog than a fox). Very often, these hunts would killed one or two foxes (the hounds kill them) and 6 or 7 deer as 'accidental kills.'

Typical behaviour...................
How common is this breed in Canada? I live where this is one of the more common breeds of dog. My eight grade English teacher raised them for their intended purpose.

Good Evening:
This breed is not very common in Canada and we were one of the first to have them in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The dogs around here generally have thick furry coats due to our winters - so these 2 dogs live in a heated garage during the winter months.
