When I touch the big knob under the screen I'm changing the filter type or tweaking filter parameters for the CS80 filter

I picked up a fully loaded 4 month old Code 8 this week, with 8 Arp 2600 and 8 CS80 filters! I was up late last night playing it for hours....

Sounds a bit like an Oberheim OBX. When you turn on all the waveforms it will saturate a bit, so it's not super clean like everyone says.

  • Towel on the top is *essential* for the warmer sound.

  • @DonSolaris

I like to keep my synths dust free :)

  • amazing sound and playing!

  • @popadopulos

Thanks, just one of my regular jams :)

  • What converters do you use?

  • @Ajantismusic

Just the convertors in a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP

Using preamp inputs 1 and 2

  • @DJPeteJames, I agree on the OBX likeness. I have one right here, although in need of a slight filter calibration. They have the same kind of 'weight' and analog prescence, even more so without the Youtube compression. :)

  • I lost it at 4:00. Sounds glorious and you played my favorite 3 chords ever. Now how to convince my wife I need this...

  • @DIGITALSCREAMS

Yes I would say the Code 8 is the best of the modern polys, but there isn't much competition. It has a full and rich sound, but it's a bit basic.

It's more like the 80s polys in that sense with some modern features. Good for big simple sounds.

  • @DIGITALSCREAMS

It sounds the thickest and fullest of all these synths, but lacks the sparkle and tightness of the JP8. Envelopes are very slow, unless you invert them.

It's a discrete synth so it does sound more pure than the A6. But they do have similar tone, that American sound. The filters are similar with Moog and SEM ones. The main difference is in the oscillators. The Code 8 ones just sound bigger. A6 sounds more warm. Code 8 is very clean and pristine sounding.

  • CoolColJ - thanks for this video....i've been following your synth demos for a long time. Think I have some old clips of yours of the Andromeda A6 and Jupiter 8 on my computer somewhere!

I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on the Omega Code 8 and how the sound compares to the A6 and JP8. Would you say the Code is the best sounding modern analog poly available?

    Thanks.

  • I love this vid

  • @popadopulos yes very sluggish

  • Thanks for the introduction to this impressive synth!

  • Goddam thing begs to be bought, whatever the cost. Amazing.

  • Really sensational! I can't believe how good that thing sounds...
