Northwest Music Promoter Pat Mason (1907-2001) shares a story involving Little Richard and Fats Domino. This video clip is an outtake from the upcoming documentary THE MEANING OF LOUIE. The interview took place at Pat's home in Seaside, Oregon on October 26, 1996.

Pat Mason was one of the most influential booking agents in the Pacific Northwest. In fact, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Richard Berry could all thank Pat Mason for setting up their very first shows in that region, as well as countless other musicians too numerous to mention. Willie Nelson was hired by Pat as a disc jockey for a radio station in Vancouver, Washington. Gene Vincent spent a year living in Pat Mason's basement. Paul Revere & the Raiders hired Pat Mason as a tour manager when they became big rock stars. After Jack Ely left the Kingsmen, it was Pat Mason that talked Jack into assembling "Jack Ely & the Kingsmen" to cash in on the public appetite for "Louie Louie." Pat Mason was a very important man in the Pacfic Northwest, and he lived to the grand age of 93 years old.

I have more video footage of Pat Mason, a true legend in the entertainment industry, which may be available for other documentary projects after I finish the LOUIE film. He had a lot of great stories....

  • I was lucky enough to have met Mr. Mason at Buddy Knox 's 60 th birtday party in 1994 . he was very interesting to talk to and a very gracious man . Thanks for this post . Many of the guys behind the scenes in the early days of rock n roll never got their due.

  • lol they ripped clothes off Little Richard lol!!!!!

  • I was jamming with Redbone and Little Richard saw me playing guitar and called me over to his table. I sat down and he grabbed my penis. I jumped up and swung but only grazed his jaw. I later spoke to drummer Peter Depoe (Redbone) and he said Richard invited him to the hotel room to talk about a gig. When the door opened the whole band was going down on each other. Pete split fast !! Now there's a real Little Richard true story!

  • boing old storey
