My Thyroid Cancer Diary- 1st scan

I had my radioactive pill of 101 mcg on Wed and this is my 1st body scan. They let me video the scan. Hope this helps the unknown jitters, or at least it will give you an idea of what this is like.

@Krafty2394 I am now on cytomel and synthroid and I feel much better being on a combo rather than just synthroid. Glad you are doing better!!!

I go in for radiation pill on Friday for my thyroid cancer I am really scared when I see the tube because I am claustrophobic any suggestions thanks for sharing

so how did your radiation go? what about the scan and starting on your meds again??

mylady908, i am sorry that you have to go hypo! i got sugar free lifesavors candies and they taste great! yes, you are suppose to wait 24hours before you start with the candies. i used sugar free because i ate them alot and even in the middle of the night i would wake up and eat one and drink. i also sucked on lemons and drank lemon water. drink lots of water! i was just fine. you will be very very tired going hypo, so get lots of funny movies and relax! let me know how it goes.

Hi, I'm about to get the RAI, but I'm SO worried. I'ved always struggled with my weight, and I'm scared to go hypo.  Have you been able to maintain your weight? How are you feeling these days?

My doctor was able to get Thyrogen shots for me so I didn't have to go off my meds. I would definitely push my doctor to get it. my insurance covered the expensive shots. I did have to push my doctor, but the second time around he was prepared. I am very sorry for people who go off their meds. I have gained some weight from all this. but i believe i will be able to manage it now that the tests are done and i can keep my T levels normal. feel free to ask as much as you need

I had the first dose of radiation for diagnoses on 1/20, then 1st Scan on the 23rd. The scan was scary at first but I closed my eyes and that helped. I was in there for 1 hour and 10 min total. 2nd dose of radiation 40 percent more to treat tissue left behind from surgery. Radiation left a bad taste in my mouth I drank allot of water in the first 24 hours. Stomach cramps and body cramps from being Hypothyroid. For the most part not as bad as expected I was off for 9 day total my mom helped me c

My Thyroid Cancer Journey started in March 2008. I did a few video diaries when I was in isolation as well. Thanks for sharing your experience I am sure it will be helpful. Being prepared and knowing what is going to happen is a key element, so seeing your clips from the hopsital will help others so much.

I'll go hypo next couple of weeks for my RAI treatment. There's back order of the thyrogen and my doctor decided that I go ahead with going hypo than wait who knows when it'll be available. I'm scared to tell you honestly but looking at how you went through it pretty good gave me the courage. I want to know what to chew or suck after i take the 1-131 pill to help my salivary glands. Some web site are saying not to suck lemon candy as it will damage my salivary glands & to do so after 24 hrs?
