I have a Powershot SD600 that i dropped, the lens got jammed, and it makes that noise. I went to the store to get it fixed, they said it was impossible. Just the other day i unjammed it :D

This is why I love Cannon unlike other cheap brands Canon really makes sturdy items from video cameras to digital cameras. My Grandmother gave me her old Cannon SD800IS and it looks new and works perfectly. It will last for many years to come!!!!!!!!!

I just fixed mine. Meaghan(friend) and I were taking .
pictures and then we noticed it was jammed.
I just beat the lens with my palm and it should go in.
If its still a lens error..
Restart the camera.

Ok smack the side where the USB is like claping your hands then it will be ok trust me worked for me.. smack it into the other hand till the lens slaps back in place and it worked again.

@BelloTheCat I called the cannon company and they sent me a refurbished one and all I had to do was send my old one back and pay a small amount of money!! It's called the Loyalty Program or something like that... Then I dropped the new one but when the lens gets stuck and won't go in all you have to do is push the lens in on the side of a table then it functions perfectly again :D

@racheljesloves I have the same problem with the same camera, except i fell on mine and the sides of the lens have cracks in them. It wont go back in it beeps then i hear a noice of the camera trying to pull it back it. Did you find out how to unjam it? i went into the motherboard to see if i could maybe pull the lense out but their is no way without breaking the camera fully.

i see you never repaired the camera so you should have shown it being smashed. Did you ever open it to take a look and diagnose the problem?
did you get this fixed? ive read that if you put the lens on a flat surface and push gently the lens gets put back on the zoom ring? google 'canon e18', theres loads of stories on how people fixed this, just a shame canon dont make there compact cameras as good as their SLR's !!

My god, I can't speak for the other Canon products, but the Canon Powershot ELPHs are indestructable. This is the THIRD time something like this occured to that poor thing. The first time, it was dropped into a bathtub full of water. The second time, the same soda accident happened. Both times, the thing came out without much of a hiccup.
Alas, I haven't had much time to figure out how to fix it yet.
