A short video of me chasing my friend Harrison's Great Planes Escapade with my Seagull Decathlon.

Both aircraft are powered by Saito .82's. Escapade flies much quicker with a 13 X 8 prop. The Decathlon is swinging a 14 X 6 (might go to a 13 X 8 next time we try this).

Onboard video by FutureHobbies.com, recorded via an Archos 605 mini DVR.

Ground video shot by my wife Desiree using a consumer-grade JVC Everio HDD camcorder.

  • Will the 13x8 prop make the decathlon pull harder? What prop would you recommend to make landings easier/slower?

  • @ThePongski - The 13 X 8 will make the plane fly faster, while the 14 X 6 makes it pull harder in a climb... I prefer the slower, more scale like flight that the 14 X 6 offers. Definately better for vertical maneuvers.

  • The Escapafe is a very fast plane with anything over a .46 in it, and with that big Saito it's a rocket. I recommend to your friend to reinforce the tail, there have been in flight failures on Escapades with larger more powerful engines.

  • @mgrande11 - Thanks for the heads up regarding the Escapade tail failures. I will pass the info on to my friend...

  • cool idea :)

  • @LondonRCproject - Thanks! We decided to try something a bit different and it turned out pretty good. It's difficult to keep the other aircraft in frame, but I think we will get better with some practice...

  • @chrisfev01 Also reinforce the area the landing gear bolts on to, I ripped the landing gear out on saturday after missing the runway and landing in tall grass on the edge of it. Easy fix it was a clean break. I may reinforce it with fiberglass.

  • Amazing footage!

  • @chrisfev01 that is certainly quite hard to do! We are working on getting a similar video up, but with the F-18, F-16 and A-6 intruder :-)

  • @BrotherBloat - thanks for the comment, we had a blast filming this. We will definately be doing this again...

  • Lovely landing :) and the roll beforehand was an extra bonus :)
