Helical (twisted) Vertical Axis ( VAWT ) 6kW Wind Turbine. This particular turbine costs a ridiculous AUD$75,500 installed and would take 75 years to pay for itself, but I'm sure it could be built ALOT cheaper by any skilled fabricator.

The egyptians had vertical axis mills three thousand years ago. They used them to grind flour. 30 k seems a bit much for an idea older than Jesus!!

Can anyone tell me some more information about this? I made one myself that has three helical blades, each wrapped 120 degrees around the circumference of the turbine. the chord length of the blades was 15 centimeters and the radius of the turbine was around 50 centimeters. It self started in winds of about 2 m/s, but couldn't reach a tip speed ratio anywhere near 1, so it never achieved lift....is there some sort of secret to building these?

Ah yeah, the prices of "new energy devices" :)
What are these people thinking? In materials and work, it will be around 200 USD max.
