Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI OM648 engine rattle

Video clip for troubleshooting/diagnosis purposes. This shows a cold engine start in the 3.2 inline 6 diesel engine. After starting the engine is reasonably steady and putting my hand on the air filter box doesn't have a big effect. After revving up a little, coming back to idle there is a booming sound. At this point, pressing on the air filter enclosure dampens the sound. Some days it starts out boomy, others it's only occasional.

Same problem. I know my airbox is lose as it goes quiet when I put my hand on it like you did. mine is the w203 c220 cdi

I had the same exact problem in my 2005 W211 CDI, I went to the dealer and where you have duct tape they put black sealer/ chaulk which helped. They told me if the problem persists I should replace that area.

I also get a woowing noise when I put the car in reverse out of the driveway, MB told me this is the wastegate and is normal.
