Here's my footage of the East Anglian Air Ambulance Bolkow BK 117 in flight at the Lowestoft Air Show 2008. The helicopter used in this year's show looked slightly different to last year's Bolkow B0105 due to the fact that the BK 117 has a pointed nose cone rather than a rounded one. Though the pilot did his best to entertain the crowds of the show by hovering, flying sideways and even backwards, sadly once again did seem slightly dull compared to the aerobatics in the rest of the show. However the air ambulance isn't around to do aerobatic flying displays but to get people to hospital as quickly as possible when the ambulance is called upon!! Used internationally as an air ambulance, the Bolkow helicopters have a top speed of 172 mph and a cruising speed of 150 mph. Not so boring after all hey?!

In this region the only way to get clinical resources to accidents and incidents within the critiacl life saving period is by Air Ambulance. The only neurosurgery department is at Addenbrookes so from the North Norfolk coast you would be talking about 3 to 5 hours for a patient to be treated for a serious head injury almost certainly resulting in brain damage. A watse of money - talk to the patients that have survived as a result of Air Ambulance intervention.
