Believe it or not, they've got engineers driving the train using handheld remote controls! The engineer rides in the locomotive's nose using a very impressive looking RC-unit (including a great big emergency stop button) and sees the track ahead through a TV screen wired up to a camera that films the line ahead. You can see the 'remote engineers' credited at the end of the film - there's an interview with one floating round the net somewhere.
