In an ad reminiscent of Lee Iacocca's, If you find a better car, buy it, post Chrysler bankruptcy campaign, General Motors is trotting out its new Chairman, Ed Whitacre in a round of commercials designed to let Americans know that its cars now compete with those of the Japanese and European carmakers on quality, fuel efficiency and price.

Conspicuously absent from the ads is the fabled GM Marque of Excellence long associated with the companys corporate identity. Instead, theyve put the remaining brands, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac front and center and let the corporate logo fade into the background.

In a Putting their money where their is mouth is gesture, GM is offering a no hassle money back, Satisfaction Guarantee to buyers of new Chevrolets, Buicks, GMC and Cadillacs. This allows customers to return their vehicle to the dealer between 31 and 60 days of purchase and receive a refund.

The first commercial is part of the "May the Best Car Win" marketing campaign that will roll out over the next few months as GM goes on the hunt to convince the public that its vehicles can go head-to-head with the competition.

  • Government Motors is the world leader at one thing.... BEGGING for money! Since this horrible car company already failed miserably last year they are being kept alive (for whatever reason lol) with Welfare money now. When they say 'may the best car win' its a suicide note.

  • Many economists would argue that it was important to keep GM and Chrysler alive (and Ford too -- which received government support in other ways) in order to preserve jobs in this country and our manufacturing capability. Especially while we were in a free falling economic collapse. The result of letting these two giant corporations fail could have been economically disastrous. I'm encouraged looking at the future product programs GM has in the pipeline. It's not over yet.

  • Ed Whitacre is an ASSHOLE and GM sucks. Look what they did to SAAB? GM is the worst car company in the world.

  • SAAB is a basket case and it only sold 94,000+ cars last year. It can be argued that it was too much of a niche vehicle to make it in today's environment even if GM hadn't done its bland magic. But I know there are other niche vehicles, like Bentley, that have done well. Then again, even Porsche is struggling. A real combination of the economy with the former GM management's inclination to stamp out the uniqueness of everything they touch. Let's hope Whitacre gives his enginners support.

  • Hello?....The Best cars have already Won! and you don't win by going bankrupt!

  • Well, a lot of auto companies have had trouble all over the world. Every car company has received some form of government support in order to survive. If we'd had national health care our car companies wouldn't have gone broke trying to pay benefits. But they appear to be back on track and let's see how well they do.

  • Indeed, for the good of GM and for the good of our country, may the best car win and may the best car be an American car.

  • I've been waiting four years for GM to honor their warranty. They are all crooks!

Hey Ed I've challenged you in just about every ad you have posted here to MEET ME ON TV where I can prove how dishonest you are.

Don't pretend you haven't been getting my offers. MEET ME ON TV.

If anyone thinks GM is honest e-mail them and ask WHY they are afraid of my evidence proving their warranty is not lived up to, and their advertising is a fraud.

    Ask Ed the liar.

  • "And may the best government owned and operated sell out, win!" C'mon, people, Obama's got stock in the auto industry now, he needs your help to make him richer than ever at your expense.

  • @Dynanu

    AGREED!

  • I'd have to agree with Ed on this one: I am a Native American and Ford falls apart on dirt roads, Dodge over heats easy in the hot summer sun in Arizona and I'll have to admit that GM trucks lasts longer than any car maker! My 2008 GMC Sierra likes to circle Ford; enhancing that's where the problem is and likes to throw dirt in a Dodges face! Love those GM cars and trucks especially!!!!

  • i love how they totally win!!!!!!(sarcasim)... fucking A

  • The "Golden Age" of the automobile is over! Cars nowadays are no more than computers on 4 wheels and become more so every year. We will see a return to beautiful design and quality appeal; it will just take time. Just sit back, relax, and realize that what we are seeing on the road now will ensure better cars to come in our tomorrows.

  • I'm trading in my Acura.

    For another Acura!

  • Hey guys, if you notice at 0:47, there is a coupe above the Chevy Volt! Could it be a new Buick coupe?

  • he looks like mr burns

  • Gm is a strong company which has the newest designs and one of the best milage. Where Toyota tries to trick stupid people in thinking their cars are the best and saying their cars are affortable. Well, that is true but they rip all of you people of because it is made by cheap material. Gm has really good materials and in addition, the milage is amazing of 20 where mostof toyota's cars are about 22. So Go Gm and stop waisting your money on Cheap scap metal toyota's.

  • @mrpitv yes, and more credible economists have argued the reverse. Please identify the scientific analysis which separates "Too" big to fail and big enough to fail. GM is a shit company and not enough people wanted its products (hint: think lobby size). that is business. Now this lying POS CEO is claiming the paid back the loan. 1. "they" paid back $6.7 billion of the total 52 bil; 2. it was paid by a separate tarp fund, i.e., "they" didn't pay back shit, taxpayers did. Fuck GM
