This is an animation done by Emeline porter and Andy Etter for International Animation Film Festival and Annecy 2011 (Guest country USA), on their subject of "Animation, land of freedom ".
(More info here: http://www.annecy.org/annecy-2011/take-part/youtube-contest and http://www.youtube.com/annecyfestival )

"Animation, Land of Freedom."

Characters (in order of appearance) -

The Judges (Hard-nosed executives in the TV industry, looking for new talent, where ever it lies.)

Idea (The Stage Hand. A conceptual being, not yet fully formed. Perhaps the process of animation can give him the character definition he needs to shine like a star.)

Jimmy Beans - (An old toon from the 1930s. A great dancer, but a little too quick for his own good.)

Squirella - (The Squirrel in Red. A multi-skilled character, having a range of looking cute, to alluring dances. However, her full spectrum of skills might not be appropriate for all audiences!)

Grilldor - (The Robot. He's fresh off the assembly line in the world of Animation, so he's still a little unsure of where his talents lie. He may look mean, but he's a big softy really.)

Description -

Obviously, animation comes in so many forms and has constantly evolved and we both through we needed to show off as many mediums as possible. We have traditional, digital, film and 3D. All forms give you the options to show off what you wish to express, but when it all comes together, the possibilities are endless, and an idea forms and grows. Quite literally in this case!

We are rather proud of this because we've pretty much managed to rumble this 5 minute animation together in about a month and a bit. From the very beginning of concepts and story ideas, all the way to this final product, using film, drawings, After effects, Adobe flash and 3D studio max. In this month alone we'd had computer problems, jobs and sick parents to deal with and yet we still managed to finish this project off since we felt that as long as we enjoyed doing it and had come so far, there was no point in not letting this idea come to light.

Animation, concepts, editing, rendering, modelling, texturing, filming and acting all by Andy Etter ( http://scifer.co.uk/ ) and
Emeline Porter ( http://mporter.carbonmade.com/ ).

Music by Kevin MacLeod ( http://incompetech.com/ )

We'd like to thank Worthing Dome Cinema and Ross McLaughlin for use of their cinema to do the filming.

  • Great job on this, you guys must have worked your asses off.

  • @Zeric47 We really did. Not just to get it done on time, but because we didn't know how long the guy we dedicated it to has left. We wanted to make sure he got to see it and that the film got into the competition :)
