I have finally managed to capture the entire run-on in pretty good quality, this time from the 9/25/10 game vs. Austin Peay. I was sitting with my Dad by the 40-yard line, rather than the student section. Go Badgers!

  • well mashdoctor, when one learns a new pregame AND halftime show in the matter of 6 rehearsals, the stands a great difficulty in memorizing these challenging arrangements on top of articulating the physical nature of the drills.

  • @amaisto95 amen.. all i ask is that you folks who choose to talk bad about the best band in the land- try doing that step. every step. at that tempo. pregame, halftime, postgame. and don't forget the march from union south and back, too. it's about the image of wisconsin. they play loud and proud and look like an army coming on the field. flip folders are really only used because it is tradition for senior members to toss their folders in the famous "On Wisconsin Finale"

  • Yes, the Badger Band uses flip folders. Unlike roll-step, if you're not ready 2 beats BEFORE your next move, EVERYONE can see it! By game day music's basically memorized, flip folders are used for moves and the concert piece played in pre-game.

To the calf comment - in my years in band I've seen calves that could crack walnuts!

Yes, we march woodwinds - 8 clarinets and 16 saxophones out of 300 on the field.

And we're not only good enough to do corps style, we're good enough to do high step!

  • @football7193 Yeah!

  • hey i was at that game to!!!!!!!!!

  • that's a weak back bend. the u of mn drum major this year had to take off his hat to do his back bends because he was a few inches off the ground.

  • UW's step is challenging, exhausting, and very difficult. They have some of the best musicians of any university, but the exhaustion and the bounce in the step show up in lack of intonation and precision in the sound (cracked notes, inconsistent entrance and cutoff, etc.) The music is easy (enabling changing the shows) as is the drill design (it's only the step that makes this challenging), so why can't they memorize it? UW is good enough to do corps style, but they're stuck in the 1930's.

  • I'd like to see some of you guys go out there and do a difficult routine like that without music. We're all human, if some of you forgot.

  • @jphermann94 Ohio State does it... I would think such a "good" band would be capable of memorizing their own music. Also, awesome timing with those Sousaphone 270 spins at the beginning.
